What to Do: Limerick St. Patrick's Weekend
Staying in Limerick this weekend? No problem! There's plenty going on in Limerick over the upcoming weekend for St. Patrick's Day.
Parades
The main parade takes place on O'Connell Street starting at 12noon on St. Patrick's Day. The Parade includes many local art groups with floats and amazing bands from both Limerick and around the world and so you can truly experience the culture and wide variety of groups here in Limerick. Be sure to be there earlier thought to claim a good viewing spot!
A second parade will take to the streets on Sunday! This is the International Band parade where the best marching bands from all over the world take to the streets of Limerick.The bands do much more than just march - they put on a marching show for all to enjoy. This is definitely something that you won't want to miss!
Other Events Parades are not the only thing happening in the city this weekend. Starting bright and early Friday morning there are many other events taking place.You can go for a tour of Limerick on bike or if your feeling more adventurous you can kayak or paddle board your way around the city! In King Johns Castle there will be plenty of fun workshops and you can try your hand at archery. There will also be a carnival in Arthur's Quay!
Food and Drink If all this has made you hungry, why not pop down to the Milk Market? this weekend it is open Friday too!! From 10am you can taste the best of Limerick with all the local produce and goodies from local Limerick merchants. To finish off your day, there will be a lot of trad sessions going on around the city where you can experience all the Traditional Irish music and dance you can wish for!
Sports If your more of a sporty person - you wont be left out! A night at the dogs taking place at the greyhound stadium both Friday and Saturday! Or if you prefer the horses, Limerick racecourse will have two packed days of horse racing on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Other events will be televised in most of the pubs in Limerick - if you'd Like to see Gaelic Football and Hurling in action, the all-Ireland finals of the Club championships will take place on St Patricks Day and of course on Saturday there is the big finale of the 6 Nations with 3 international rugby games back to back.
